Our Priests

Fr. Mark Beckman came to St. Matthew Catholic Church as pastor in 2002. After ordination he was assigned to Holy Rosary in Donelson and served as a teacher and Associate Principal at Father Ryan High School in Nashville. In 1996 he became pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Michael in Robertson County and Director of the Diocesan Catholic Youth Office and Search program, which he led for 13 years. He is a native of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, and received his Bachelor of Arts in History from St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa, and his Master in Religious Studies from the Catholic University of Louvain in Louvain, Belgium. He was ordained a priest in the Diocese of Nashville in 1990. Since becoming pastor at St. Matthew, Fr. Mark has enjoyed a great variety of ministries. Of special importance have been the vibrant Eucharistic Liturgies, the RCIA program, the Haiti ministry, and so many others. In his free time, he is also an avid hiker and cyclist and enjoys a wide variety of books and movies.

Fr. Nicholas Allen joined St. Matthew Catholic Church as associate pastor on July 1, 2008. In addition to celebrating Mass and handling his daily duties along with Fr. Mark Beckman, he visits classes at St. Matthew School and Father Ryan High School where he also serves as chaplain. He assumed the directorship of the Catholic Youth Office and Search program in 2009. Before studying to become a priest, Fr. Nicholas attended Tennessee State University and also ran a local restaurant. He eventually enrolled at the Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana, and was there when Hurricane Katrina devastated the area in 2005. Prior to his ordination to the priesthood on May 30, 2008, Fr. Nicholas was assisting at St. Catherine parish in Columbia, Tennessee. He enjoys the outdoors, reading and writing. He also is very interested in historical things and has collected many very old books and interesting pieces that he has displayed in his office.
