The Haiti Committee of Saint Matthew Catholic Church exists to support, nurture, and educate the people of our sister parish in Gobert, Haiti. We seek to involve our parishioners and encourage them to share their resources to provide hope, health and healing to the parishioners of Our Lady of Miracles. By sharing our common faith and Christian love, we hope to foster understanding, respect and unity between our cultures.
Since 1995, the church of St. Matthew has been sending monthly collections to Our Lady of Miracles, our sister parish in Haiti, to support the day-to-day church operations. In April of 2002, our Pastoral Parish Council voted the Haiti mission as an official ministry at St. Matthew. A fact-finding mission then traveled to Haiti in May 2003. When they witnessed the conditions
In Gobert, the group was overwhelmed by the tremendous need.
All Haiti designated funds collected by St. Matthew benefit the parish in Gobert. This money comes from three sources:
Haiti collections (blue envelope) sent directly to Fr. Rex, who administers those funds for the use of his parish. He will report to the Parish Twinning Program of the Americas on how this money is being spent.
Haiti Special Projects collections (gray envelope), which are deposited in the parish checking account as restricted revenue for the sole use of Hait expenditures, including medical missions. The Special Projects second collection was established in order to assist Fr. Rex, give aid to his people to handle emergencies and fund projects begun by our Haiti team.
St. Matthew School students, who collect funds for Haiti, remitted bimonthly to Fr. Rex. These funds are earmarked specifically for the parish school in Haiti.
