Our Pack was founded in 1980 and has provided the Cub Scouting experience to hundreds of boys since then. We operate as a unit of the Boy Scouts of America, Middle Tennessee Council, Natchez Trace District.
Pack 287 operates to teach our Scouts to be leaders, to set an example, and to stand up for what they know is right. We want our Scouts to be honest, to set high goals for themselves and to be achievers. We work towards this goal by helping each boy to grow mentally and physically as well as to become a better citizen.
Our program is a year-round, family-oriented part of the Boy Scouts of America program, designed for boys who are in the first through fifth grades. Our leaders, parents/guardians and Scouts work together to achieve the 10 purposes of Cub Scouting:
1. Character Development
2. Spiritual Growth
3. Good Citizenship
4. Sportsmanship and Fitness
5. Family Understanding
6. Respectful Relationships
7. Personal Achievement
8. Friendly Service
9. Fun and Adventure
10. Preparation for Boy Scouts
In the Pack 287 program, a Scout is a member of a small group called a “Den” as well as a member of our overall “Pack”.
A “Den” consists of Scouts of the same age and normally meets once a month during the school year. At “den” events, Scouts work towards achievement of age appropriate goals and awards.
The “Pack” consists of Scouts from all ages (approximately age 6 to 11). Our Pack has an active program and encourages participation in monthly Pack events. Over the course of the year, our monthly Pack events include items such as campouts, pinewood derby, annual picnic, award ceremonies/banquets and pack meetings. They always include fun for the Scouts and siblings and we greatly encourage parent participation.
Pack 287 always welcomes parent participation in the form of volunteering for leadership positions within the Pack. We are always looking for volunteers to either coordinate one-time events or to take on an ongoing leadership role within the Pack. Check out our Leadership page for more information.
