The Word from Fr. Mark

The Mystery of Holy Week
Holy Week is the annual celebration of the central mystery of the Christian faith: the saving death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Palm Sunday
We begin with Passion or Palm Sunday. In a way it serves as a “prologue” to Holy Week. We begin outside as we commemorate the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. This begins in a festive spirit. At the Gospel, the Passion of Matthew is proclaimed this year, and the tone of the Liturgy becomes more somber.
Holy Week Begins
In the first days of Holy Week (Monday through Wednesday)  the focus is on the approaching death of Jesus ...

Welcome Home: Join Us On The Journey

Are you a Catholic who has been away from the church but are interested in reconnecting? Do you know someone who might be interested? Catholics who returned after being away will also be available to share the story of their own ...

Time to Return Those Library Books, Videos
Calling all patrons of our St. Matthew library: Please take a moment to see if there are any books or videos that need to be returned to the parish library! We have a number of items that have been checked out but not returned. You can drop these off at the basket in the library or at one of the church staff desks nearby. Thanks for your support!
Funeral Luncheon Ministry Seeks Volunteers
St. Matthew has a bereavement luncheon ministry that  coordinates and serves meals to parishioners following funerals of loved ones at St. Matthew. The ministry relies on volunteers for different aspects of the service, including preparing and delivering salads or desserts to the church kitchen, and teams to set up and clean up the dining area. We are glad to provide this refreshment and comfort for grieving family and friends. To get involved, contact Olga Olenick, 646-7505.
Don’t Forget: Put Worship Aids Into Hymnals After Mass
Please don’t forget to put the laminated prayer cards with the new Mass translation back into the maroon Gather books at the end of each Mass. The prayer cards continue to be a great help as we become accustomed to the changes. A special thanks to Mrs. Mary Denson’s fourth-grade class at St. Matthew School. The students inserted the new seasonal worship guides and organized the other inserts in all the hymnals in the church and training chapel.
